Tricking your metabolism to lose
more
Friday 25, Jun 2009
- DEAR JIM: You mentioned in a
previous column that breakfast eaters typically lose
weight and maintain their weight easier than breakfast
skippers, so I started eating breakfast again. It was
hard at first because I hadn’t eaten breakfast regularly
since I was a kid - I'm 71 now - but now I feel so much
better, and I don’t know why I ever stopped in the first
place. But surely there has to be more to losing weight
than just eating breakfast – it can’t be that simple.
DOUBTFUL IN DENVER
DEAR DOUBTFUL: Of course, there is more to
losing weight than just eating breakfast. Eating breakfast is
just one of several factors in a successful weight loss
program. You still have to watch your caloric intake, and you
should be exercising on a regular basis.
However, there is still another “trick” you
might try. Since your metabolism is four times faster from 6-10
A.M. than from 6-10 P.M., you could potentially alter your
weight up to 25 pounds a year by simply eating the same thing
every day but at different times. However, it may be harder
than you think because most of us have been “socialized” from
the time we were youngsters about when and what to eat.
But whatever you eat and whenever you eat,
be sure to include some physical activity in the equation to
keep your body toned and everything working right.
